Traditional "Passive Balancing" works by burning off excess energy from higher-voltage cells through resistors as heat. In the context of construction machinery start-stop systems, this is highly inefficient. When a 20-ton excavator shuts down its engine and relies on battery power for auxiliary systems, and then suddenly draws 500A+ to restart, the battery cells experience rapid voltage drops. Passive balancing is too slow and generates unwanted heat in an already hot engine compartment.
